Inuksuk

Last year we went camping near Parry Sound, Ontario. All along the highway and throughout the parks along the trails you can find these 'rock people' called Inuksuk. Originating from the Inuit culture, they had many practical functions... they were employed as hunting and navigation aids, coordination points, indicators, and message centers. I think that the original practical and spiritual functions they provided the Inuit are lost to our culture, however, they are quite a sight for travelling tourists. They are also fun for the children to make as we hiked the trails throughout the parks.

There are a lot of those around Sedona, Arizona. But with the new age culture there they probably have some mystical idea attached to them. They are cool though. I saw a lot of them as I was mountain biking.
